#AskTNS: Marc Gasol, Mike Conley NBA All Star; No one’s interested in Titans, according to sources.

This week’s news

Grizzlies All-Star Vote

The Memphis Grizzlies wants you to help put Marc Gasol and Mike Conley in the NBA All Star game this year. If Gasol gets in, it’ll be the second consecutive season he’s made it. Conley, however, would be in it for the first time in his career. Gasol is averaging 16.5 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game, 4 assists per game. He has been a consistent force against opposing teams. Meanwhile, Conley is averaging 15.2 points per game with 5.9 assists. He’s a valuable talent to the Grizzlies, but not a stand-out NBA star.

No one wants to coach the Tennessee Titans, according to sources.

Reports say the Tennessee Titans aren’t a very intriguing head coaching gig to top head coaching candidates. It looks like it’ll be that way unless the Titans ownership can get their priorities straight and prove the franchise is stable. If no one wants to come to Tennessee, the Titans will have no other choice but to stick with interim head coach Mike Mularkey next season. In fact, the Titans are actually leaning towards keeping GM Ruston Webster and Mike Mularkey, even though it’s not a popular decision with the fanbase.

For some good news, Delanie Walker finished the 2015-16 season with a bang, becoming the first tight end in franchise history to receive 1,000 yards, and tying a career best in receptions. Dorial Green-Beckham had a phenomenal rookie year. 94% of his catches this season went for 1st downs, the highest in NFL history is 95%. That’s some positive takeaways from such a negative season.

Volunteers are the only Tennessee collegiate football team to win.

After a season full of ups and downs, the Tennessee Volunteers finished the season with nine wins after becoming Outback Bowl Champions on New Years Day. The SEC went 8-2 in the bowls. That marked as the best out of any conference, which surprised many after the SEC had a dismal record last year.

Your Questions Answered:

@stantonconnell20 asks: Should the Titans get Chip Kelly?

The only beauty there is to hiring Chip Kelly is reuniting him with Marcus Mariota. Multiple sources say Philadelphia Eagles players disliked Kelly and wasn’t afraid to admit that. Taking Kelly would be a big risk for an organization that’s slowly but surely growing their team with young talent. I think taking Chip Kelly would be a mistake in the long run.

@stantonsweeney asks: Who do you think the Titans will draft?

The Tennessee Titans have had their best years with a speedy running back taking pressure off their quarterback. The Titans will go for Derrick Henry and pick up offensive linemen in free agency. If Derrick Henry isn’t drafted, they will probably go corner back or safety, or trade the first pick to receive more picks.

@chrischunsmithers asks: Do you think Coach Norvell will continue to build the Memphis program to be a power five contender?

I’ve read reports saying that Coach Norvell spent time with a few people in the Tigers program not knowing he would end up coaching there. So he has a good idea of what he’s getting into. There’s high confidence on Norvell. There’s a great feeling that the Tigers are in good hands with him on the sidelines.

@willyo63 asks: Why don’t you ever cover East Tennessee State University?

Tennessee Sports is slowly but surely growing. The more we grow, the more we’re noticed by all kinds of different fanbases within Tennessee. One day, ETSU will get their chance to premiere on TNS.

@whodatguy54 asks: What are the chances that Tennessee wins SEC East next year, and should Vanderbilt fire Derek Mason, and if so, who should they get?

The Volunteers had a great outing in their bowl game, and now analyst are high on them heading into next season. The Volunteers will have a great 2016 season, but it’s doubtful that they’ll win the SEC East. The SEC is full of talented teams, let alone the SEC East. Vanderbilt definitely should, and most likely will, part ways with Derek Mason. I actually wouldn’t mind a Chip Kelly to Vanderbilt occasion, but HA, I’m just dreaming. That would be pretty crazy, right?

@_andrewm10 asks: What is the problem with the Grizz this year?

The inconsistency is their issue. They can not seem to get on a groove like they seemed to do a lot last season. The Grizzlies are a talented team, but it doesn’t seem like the players are giving their all at times. Head coach Dave Joerger needs to figure out how to get 110% out of his players for 48 minutes.

@dr._b_ asks: Will [Tigers basketball head coach] Josh Pastner take the Tigers to the next level?

Josh Pastner is the ninth winningest coach in NCAA Division l basketball history. That speaks volumes. It’s only a matter of time before the Tigers get over the hump and become THE team to beat. I’m talking about at levels you haven’t seen yet.

@j_higgins23 asks: What are the chances that the Preds win the Stanley Cup?

Not very good. The Predators are too inconsistent to get past the more consistent teams in the league. If they can find a rhythm and win a handful of games here and there, then their chances would certainly increase.

@jack_kaley asks: Do you think Webster will be with the Titans next year?

Reports indicate that the Tennessee Titans are indeed leaning towards keeping Webster around. Mostly because of the lack of interest in the Titans due to the instability at ownership. That sucks.
